Finding RTSP address of an ONVIF Camera

Sometimes, a camera won’t work correctly with a system, like a VMS, even if it’s supposed to be ONVIF compatible. In those cases, you might be able to get away with it by using the RTSP protocol directly.

The rtsp URL format is different for each camera manufacturer. The easiest way to discover this address is to use ONVIF Device Manager.

When starting the software, click on the camera on the left section:

Click on the Live video link. Once connected to the camea, the RTSP address of the main stream is available directly under the video:

To find the rtsp address of the sub stream, click of Profiles. The list of video stream profiles will be displayed. Select the second profile and click Select:

When done, return to the Live video section. the substream address will be displayed under the video:
